When the Saints Go Marching In

“When the Saints Go Marching In”, often referred to as “The Saints”, is an American gospel hymn that has taken on certain aspects of folk music. The precise origins of the song are not known. Though it originated as a spiritual, today people are more likely to hear it played by a jazz band. The song is sometimes confused with a similarly titled composition “When the Saints are Marching In” from 1896 by Katharine Purvis (lyrics) and James Milton Black (music). Continue reading

It Is No Secret  What God Can Do is a Southern Gospel song composed by Stuart Carl Hamblen in the 1950s. “When Hamblin quit drinking thanks to Billy Graham he began to lose favor with Hollywood. He was ultimately fired by the radio station when he refused to accept a beer company as a sponsor. Hard times were upon him. 這首幾乎所有主日學小朋友都會唱的聖詩,是由美國長老會牧師馬爾比巴柏克作詞。 巴柏克熱愛大自然,喜歡將他的感受寫成詩歌,但都沒有正式發行。直到1901年,巴柏克赴聖地旅行途中過世,他的妻子凱瑟琳才整理他寫過的許多詩歌並刊印。巴柏克的好友Franklin Sheppard於1915年為『這是天父世界』作曲,後由Edward Barnes編曲。 Continue reading
